Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

New Baltimore deserves better, cosmetically it looks great however you don't go out to eat to look at the walls. The service was fine, nothing amazing. The long story short is the food sucks. I don't go out to eat to have a pre-sliced french dip sandwich and under cooked frozen french fries. My friend order the chicken parmesan, the chicken was dry and flavor less and the pasta sauce was extremely sweet, the noodles were of low quality something you would expect at a banquet hall. Drive somewhere else

Darn... I really wanted to like this place... I gave it an extra star because the service was outstanding. Other wise it would be a low 2. It started off great, we were seated quickly and we ordered a couple of Bloody Mary's, mine with a Corona chaser. Mine was great! My wife's on the other hand,... Well... Not so good. The celery stick was rotten and moulty. Ugh, the water was good. I had the BBQ burger with jalapeño slices that was on special and my wife had the Lemon chicken. Here's where it starts down hill. Burger over cooked, not that big of a deal, jalapeño raw sliced long ways with the seeds in it, I'll be paying for that later tonight. The lemon chicken with capers... 2 bites and done, the veggies, yuck, and buttered noodles side. Oh well... I'm not saying that I wouldn't try this place again, but it will be a while before I do.

We have eaten here before and were not impressed which was a shame because it's a really cool building and the upstairs is a pretty neat room. We stopped in Wednesday night and had a great meal and great service, it's always a pleasure to have a good server (Micky) who knows the menu and can give an intelligent recommendation. We found a new spot and will be back

Average. Nothing outstanding. Had burned meatballs in wedding soup. Had burnt sliders too. Service was very good. Might try again.
(3)Kelly A.
Great food, fresh ingredients! Head chef and owner came out to check on usa after meal! Awesome service.
(5)Todd J.
Thought we would try the upstairs, suprised to find out it was karaoke night. Very loud, and was truly karaoke singers galore. Plus there were people lined up for a road rally which made for an even more crowded experience. Service was good, but we plan to try the main floor next time.
(2)Frank N.
The food is mediocre at best and the service can be excruciatingly slow, even when the place is relatively empty. I added a star just because the ambiance is nice downstairs and I do think the owners are actually trying to be decent.

Third time's the charm, I guess... I finally got into Fin's. I came in at about 5 on a Tuesday evening and they were a little over half capacity up and downstairs. Ordered at the table were the cheesesteak sandwich, spaghetti and meatballs, and salmon burger -- which is what I got. Before I dive into that though, the look of this place is great. From what I can tell, they have the original floors to give it a bit of a rustic look, but everything else is updated, and it has a really nice aesthetic. There's also even an elevator inside for people who need to use it. Before going upstairs, I got a quick look into the bottom floor area and noticed a good amount of seating and a bar. To me, the downstairs area was a little more crammed than upstairs. Up there, there's another bar, and it looks just as nice as the bottom floor. There are eight beer taps, at least half of which seemed to be (from what I could see) craft beers. It's not a large bar area, but it probably seats about ten to twelve and looks really nice. Alright, the food. First, I'm a bit confused... do they have two kitchens at Fin's? It would appear that way, unless there's a second stairwell in the back of the place. Anyway, it took about twenty minutes to get our main courses after getting our salad/soup/etc. The salad is what it is. It's right out of a bag, and has some iceburg lettuce, red romaine, and carrots. What's really good about the salad though is the bleu cheese dressing. Honestly, the best I've had anywhere. Clearly homemade, and it tastes great. I put my bread in it. The beef stew was passable -- fine and dandy, but nothing stood out about it. The beef was nice and tender though, and the best part about it was that it wasn't too salty, which seems to be a constant problem for a lot of places. The salmon burger... really good. I'd complain that there is just too much dill and arugala on the sandwich, but too much is better than enough in this situation, because you can take it off if you'd like. The spread that's on it is also really nice. The fish was cooked very well, was juicy, and not overly salted. Additionally, the bun they used was great. The fries were a bit limp and about room temperature, but they had a nice flavor, and it appears that they're hand cut as well. The spaghetti and meatballs has one big problem -- the whole dinner plate only had two half dollar sized meatballs on it, which I find pretty unacceptable. As for the sauce, I enjoyed it a lot. It was nice and tangy with only a little bit of sweetness. Basically the ideal spaghetti sauce. The meatballs were pretty tasty, but nothing to brag about. A pretty simple, but well executed plate of spaghetti, it just needs at least a couple more meatballs on the plate. The cheesesteak is one of the better renditions I've had in Michigan. It's certainly not an authentic Philly, but the meat they use is tasty, well seasoned, and piled on fairly for the price you pay. It's also served with a side of really good, certainly house made horseradish sauce. Another winner. Overall, I really like Fin's. It'll take another visit or two before I bump it up to five to make sure my visit wasn't a fluke, but this was a good first impression... if I exclude the two visits I made when I couldn't get in. Blows Camille's By the Bay out of the water in every way: the food tastes much better for a bit of a lower price, the building's aesthetic is far superior, and there's a better selection of beer. (That's always a plus in my book!) They don't do anything "out of the box" (although I wish they would consider it), but they do have well made food in a good location and a great looking building. If this visit was any indication, I expect Fin's to be a staple in downtown New Baltimore.

Update here!! 5 months later and I think Fin's is getting it. Went there 3 times over the holidays, including their New Years Eve bash, and they have been on point every time. I think the food has gotten much better (rice balls!), and the service. I'm upgrading from a previous two star to a four, Keep it up! Previous Review Below- 2 star- 8/12/14 Four times still not impressed! Local person here, and was so pumped about fins. Ill start with the positives. Two bars one downstairs one up, and the building is awesome. Atmosphere is good! Plenty of waitstaff and personnel that will help you out. That's about where it ends. I have ate there four times and the avocado turkey burger was the only thing that was worth the money. Everything else was overpriced for what came out of that kitchen. Can ott blame it on me being a cheap a** from the NB either. Bad Brads great and a little pricey, Little Cammiles great, pump OK, Fins not so good. Its not just me who thinks that Fin's is not so good, uncles, aunts, friends, and grandparents all think they could do better.

Ate here on a Sunday evening @5:00 pm, wife, daughter and I. I ordered French Dip, Daughter ordered Mac N Cheese, wife ordered a burger, medium well. My wife and daughters food came, mine didn't. After they were halfway done with their meal the waitress came back and told me my meal was given to another table and they were remaking mine. Offered a free salad. I declined. 15 minutes later my food came after my wife and daughter had finished eating. My wife's burger, ordered medium well came charred and dry as a bone inside. My daughter loved her food. The aus ju that came with my french dip was so salty I couldn't eat it. Then, after drinking 1/3 of my soft drink I noticed the inside rim of the glass was coated in film and food particles from either a poor wash job or never being washed. I was so grossed out I couldn't finish eating. The waitress was apologetic but never offered to do anything about our bad experience and never called a manager over. I left them a message on their web site saying all of the above. Hopefully I will get a positive response from them or we will never go back to Fins.

I really like this place! The handmade cannoli was outstanding. Definitely going back!
(4)Toni P.
Been there a couple of times. Food and service is o.k., nothing special. I don't go out of my way to go there. I was disappointed it wasn't better
(2)Jay M.
Stay away. The food, service, and management was awful. Never left a bad review but am feeling compelled. Call mission impossible, this place isn't good. When we spoke to the manager he really just didn't care. Cold food Nasty oil to dip bread Perch was highly over cooked

Hostess cleaned a table and sat us down right away. Said she would be back with the menus shortly. She went up stairs came back and stood at the hostess stand with her back to us. After waiting 10 min we decided to leave and find a restaurant interested in serving us.

Just discovered Fins recently and we loved it. My girlfriend and her friend call the Cadillac Bread "crack bread" because it was so addicting and my Italian burger was a perfect fusion of Italian and American flavors. The car decor was fun and interesting, as were the old doors used as tables. We've been there three times and my only complaint was one time the service was poir & slow, one time mediocre, and the first time it was spot on. Regardless, each time the food has been excellent!
(4)James R.
I don't understand tge negative posts about this place. I've gone here three soon to be four times total and have enjoyed it every time. Went here for our anniversary because it's walking distance from home and loved the food and drinks. Went here for after movie drinks and enjoyed that as well. Went here on small business Saturday or Sunday (can't remember) and even though it took a bit for our food (poor waitress was on her own) the whole family enjoyed our meals. See you again soon.
(5)Kathleen W.
Excellent food (I ordered the Pasta Camaro... Yum!), excellent service! I will definitely be returning to Fin's again!
(5)Justin D.
Awesome place. Great food and amazing staff. Every time I come here I feel like I'm at home with my italian family since everyone is so friendly and the food is like my mom used to make. Definitely recommend it.

Stopped in Sunday for breakfast. Was seated fast, hostess was friendly and took order quickly. Ordered the breakfast sandwich " NO Tomato" waitress came back said something incoherent, I did make out " scrambled " thou. Sandwich came with tomato. My friends Breakfast was bland, sausages tasteless, hash browns undercooked and toast came late. Not a great experience overall. Now I now why they push the 13 dollar bloody Mary's.
(2)Nancy M.
We enjoyed eating at Fins for dinner. Our kids enjoyed their pasta dishes from kids menu. We also had stuffed shells and perch dinner. We thought food tasted good. Although I thought the food tasted cold from soup and 2 different dishes I sampled. Reasonable prices, nice staff. We will go back.
(3)Amber K.
For a later dinner it was surprisingly not that busy. It did take a while to get our meals, and it seemed the bussers were not well trained. When we did receive our food it was a lot of switching around because I got somebody else's soup, she got my salad, etc. The roasted vegetable medley and the ranch dressing for the salad were really tasty. Everyone was happy with their meal, and the turkey burger was not dry which is a huge plus. I would go back for a dinner but it's not a oh my gosh I must go back immediately!

Sorry all you other reviewers... We LIKED the place! We live in New Baltimore and have been waiting and waiting for Fin's to open. For over a year they have been remodeling the old Pharmacy building, and what a renovation it was! Don't know why people were confused about what kind of restaurant it was since the sign said "Italian" in the window for over a year. Loved the décor. The original hardwood floors (looked like it anyway) and the exposed brick with the car references made for a nice atmosphere. We arrived at 6pm on Friday night and grabbed the last table in the place (was on the main floor). The place was already packed. Forgot to ask if they take reservations, but come early if you don't want to wait. The waitress said they've been like this since they opened about a month ago. Otherwise, expect to wait. Now for the food..... I would have given it all 5 stars if the bread was better. I agree with one reviewer that the bread needs to be updated to homemade, or rolls or something other than regular basic bread. But... the minestrone soup was very tasty. Had a thicker tomato base and lots of veggies. It was Friday night and we both had the perch special. 5 or so (can't remember) nice pieces of sautéed perch on top of carrots and broccoli that were done perfectly (not mushy), hand cut and better vegetables than I've had in any place I can think of lately. Baked potato was hot and just rightly done and the perch was breaded and tasty. I can (and did to the lady at the next table who asked) recommend the perch. With my strawberry daiquiri and minestrone soup I was totally stuffed halfway through the perch. I stuffed the perch in and ate some veggies. My husband ate all his veggies (he's such a good boy!) and was too full and left one of his perch. We were too uncomfortably stuffed to try one of the desserts so I can't comment on those. All in all, I approve of the new eatery in New Baltimore... I know, you were just waiting for my approval before you tried it... Would recommend YOU getting there early if you want a table, and THEM getting better bread!

First visit was right after Fin's opened in March 2014. View of water from upstairs window was nice, decor is pleasant, but food just okay. Believe in supporting local businesses and decided to try again last week July 2014. Ordered 1 grilled chicken sandwich and 1 salmon burger, and a carry out. Waitress said she'd put in the carry out when our meals came. After 30 minutes, we flagged waitress down and said "If sandwiches take this long to get, you had better put that carry out order in now." No explanation or apology on the slow service, though the place was only half full. Very loud atmosphere with a group at the bar amping up the noise. One particular woman's piercing laugh grated on the nerves as we sat and waited and waited for our food. After 40 mins the sandwiches appeared at last - stone cold and bread very dry. Waitress did not check back on our table once in the entire time we were there. We are very generous tippers, having children who have worked in the food service industry, but could not reward this lack of customer regard. Very disappointed and will not be going back.

My husband and I went to Fin's last night for their opening we were so excited for a new restaurant in New Baltimore. The staff is very friendly and polite but when it comes to getting food there we waited an hour and a half and still did not even receive our full order The food is not very good they ran out of The soup and other entrées on the menu I ordered the chicken I received four small pieces of chicken on my plate no vegetable no potato nothing else we expected more and the flavor of the food is not very good I don't think we will be returning there too bad we were very excited for this
(1)Mary T.
Hard to even rate this place, yes the staff was friendly and good, but i think the food was crappy and over priced, they are Italians that own it and the spaghetti was way over priced for a cup of noodles and pastey sauce,, unless you order one of the "more expensive" meals on the back of the menu, the ordinary pasta meals inside do not even come with a salad..10 bucks for a cup of noodles and nasty sauce, lets get real.,, friend had the blta and said worst sandwich ever... i will not be returning
(1)William K.
Although the staff and service was good and the décor was unique, the menu was a bit to be desired (we've seen better choices) and overpriced for the food we got. The food did taste good, however. It was a good experience for a one-time visit, but will go elsewhere next time.
(2)Jenny P.
visited tonight,it was line..like 2 h wait.we back later and got table. food was nothing special, but its nice atmosphere there.so i will give it try

I hate to give a bad rating to any place that opens in downtown New Baltimore. It's such a great town that has so much potential. Maybe if they take the criticisms to heart and make necessary changes, it'll be a hit. It's been open a few weeks now, so I figured that some of the kinks would have been worked out...apparently not. Decor: Nice colors, treatments/wall finishes, use of retro items Layout: Downstairs is tight, and logistics/timing of downstairs kitchen with upstairs food service MUST be improved. Having bars upstairs and downstairs definitely says this place wants to be a BAR, not a RESTAURANT. Ambiance: 50's theme is OK, but at least add some variety to the music. Cleanliness: One sip of the water said something's wrong!! I live in NB too, so the water shouldn't taste and smell strongly of mold. The bus boy was sorting dishes on the floor next to the bar (give him a tray stand, at least!). And don't let him serve the next diners with his grubby thumb over the edge of the plate. This brings me to Training: This should be thorough before opening, and it doesn't seem like it's being done with any effectiveness. Bring in a consultant, owners, before it's too late! Service: Friendly, but lack of menu knowledge, service techniques, follow-up, or accountability is obvious. Bad news, and then there's the Food: Bowl of Chili was served after the melted cheese on top had cooled and solidified into a crust, only to find there was hardly any of the boringly flavored chili in the bowl. Onions weren't chopped fine enough/well. I was thrilled to see they offered 1/2 lb. Prime burgers, so I went for the bacon burger - asked for medium, came out (quite) well done, ruining the pleasure of prime beef, and fries were just barely warm. 'Hand cut' out of a bag. Pesto Pasta was Pasty. 'nuff said. These folks are Italian? What about that nasty bread? Get a better source! Ugh. Get menu selections suited to needs and tastes of customers, better training, better kitchen management, better cooking, better service, better focus, and you might get better ratings. Once these are fixed, market yourselves better. Better make some drastic changes fast! Consider responding to criticism (constructively) on Yelp, it might help.

I, a former employee, went here to eat with my boyfriend and one of my good friends at 5 o clock on a Friday afternoon. He and I had little money so we were going to get something to share so we could still leave a tip, and my friend was actually going to get a meal. The waitres came and I ordered for myself and my boyfriend, she said, her exact words, "really? You're cutting into my time on a busy Friday night when I could have actual customers making me more money." Then she walked away without taking my friends order, so of course, as most of you would, she got upset and wanted to explain to the owner what happened. The owner called me in the next day to fire me because my friend complained, which I had no idea she was going to do in the first place. She said " I am going to fire you for that because you didnt stop her from saying anything," (which she said two days before that if there any complaints to let her know) "your waitress is a single mother raising a sick child." So that makes it okay to be rude to customers? Whether I worked there or not, it's not right. Also, I was the only table in my waitresses section, and there were only two other tables taken upstairs being served by other waitresses. In my opinion, I shouldn't have gotten fired, anyone agree?

Update :) had family that wanted to try. So we gave it a second try. Was greeted at door by nice hostess who gave us option of sitting. I went a little simpler than last. Great choice! Got the chipotle chicken! Yum yum! We all enjoyed our meals. One got the Mac and cheese burger. He was expecting more cheese in the Mac and cheese bun but it was ok for the special price. Another, shrimp pasta. Good size but over buttered. Last, the fish and fries. He ate it all. However, I asked for no potato but coleslaw and veggies on side. I was given and charged for potato and two sides: ( I wasn't paying so I was told to shrug it off. In summary. Food is good but service is too much in hurry that they don't always get order correct. I'll stick with takeout with the wrap: )

We tried this place before dinner rush. I think they did a lot with this building. Nice view from the upstairs window seating. We ordered the French onion soup and wings. Both were good; the soup is a bit salty but I liked it. My son asked why they served the dinner salads in dog bowls...lol. They're the big stainless steel bowls and he was right, they're similar to a dog dish. Our entrées were not nearly as good as the appetizers. Fish and chips, coconut shrimp were both heavily breaded. The Michigan salad was the iceberg bag with sliced chicken added. Prices are a bit high and a somewhat limited menu. Service was very good though. We'd come again for the appetizers.

The owners and staff were the very best and most friendly people I have ever run into. This was my first visit to this fine establishment. We sat at the bar and had drinks plus dessert . We did not have dinner but it looked and smelled great . Everyone there was enjoying themselves as much as us. We will be going back for dinner real soon. Thanks Bob for a great evening!

Came back to try Fin's after I read it had new ownership. Very happy we did! Food and service was excellent. So much better than the previous ownership. So happy we have another dining option in NB. YAY!!

Went to try this out one night for date night. I thought what most other thought, about it being right on the water, so it should include some time of seafood, nope not one thing on there menu. It's a confused high class/casual Italian resturant. I love the theme, and the music when right along with it. The food was meh. My date was missing items on his sub and I asked for two types of cheese and didn't get either. They are good sized portions, not too much and not too little. The waitress was very unprofessional and even sat at our table to tell us about another yelp review on here that was horrible. She laughed.... Umm not ok in my book. I'll try it again only because I live 1 mile from it.

I love this place! Great location in downtown Baltimore. Interior is nice and modern and the tables closer to the windows on the second floor have great views of downtown and the lake. I've been there twice and had great experiences both times. The staff was nice and the food was delicious. I tried the New Yorker Blta and the Continental Italian Grilled cheese. Both tasted great and were very reasonably priced. They also offer bottles of wine in the $17-23 range. Highly recommend.

So excited about the opening of Fins in New Baltimore we headed out to try our new neighbor. I have to say I was impressed with the overall looks of the restaurant. I did not pay enough attention to the name Fins. I guess i expected the Restaurant sitting on Anchor Bay to have some famous Great Lakes food. We find this restaurant typical of motor city eateries with late 50 car theme and 50's beebop music playing in the background. So I order my beer, they had Sam Adams yeah! Cher ordered a glass of Cabernet. The menu.. "Shock" i was like what the heck? Italian food? Really? Nothing real special, lasagne and Scampi, a ribeye steak. A few sandwhiches, mozzerrella sticks and chicken tenders. But wait! Clam Chowder. I decide chowder and the bread. Cher takes a leap of faith with the Grilled Cheese and Prosciutto. First the bread(not good)- italian just like we are use to seeing all over Detroit on Greek Coney tables, you know the places with a table basket of crackers and bread slices in baggies. HORRIBLE, dry, tasteless bread. There was not enough olive oil to choke this bread down. Let me get to my chicken broth soup with clams and potatoes clever mashed potato used to thicken the chowder, no milk or cream, lots of butter though. "The clams were tender." FYI, I left 3/4 bowl of soup uneaten. I turned my attention on Cher's sandwich. The sandwich maybe two slice of Provolone melted on even thicker slices of horrible dry italian bread. Over thick slices of Prosciutto grilled extra crisp and salty. This caused the sandwich to be tough and salty. It had no sauce. I ran out of beer, Cher ordered water. The fries were excellent especially with ketchup. Overall- Nothing on that menu makes me want to return. My two cents: Get a good band on weekends go for the bar business. You won't be known for food. Service- New waitress maybe first job, our dinner plates were left even after paying our bill. $5 tip was generous.

Awful service. Ordered a salad an appetizer three tables that ordered after us were served before us. Food was ordinary. I will never go back

So, after quite some time, and after hearing they have a new chef, my younger son and I decided to re try. I REALLY REALLY want a decent sit down in town, near the house. Our prior experience was after they had been opened a few weeks. My older son and I visited. Long story short, we left after an hour and a half, having not eaten. My son wrote a Yelp review which was removed as it may have been too detailed. Suffice it to say, t had to be one of the single worse restaurant experiences I have ever had. So, after the passage of time, and because my younger son was back from college and wanted to try (oldest said he would never step foot again), we stopped for dinner. Son said the bread at the table was very good, a crusty Italian bread. Served with olive oil, Parmesan, and pepper... nice start. (I'm on a no wheat try, so had to pass). He also had a half pound burger with avocado, a side salad and the burger came with seasoned fries. While slightly over done, he indicated the burger was very good. I had the evening special, sirloin steak with a zip sauce. Again, slightly over done, but the steak was good. Zip sauce tends to be a bit salty, so this did not disappoint. I had double vegetables and no starch. I love vegetables, and their veggies are freshly cut and prepared. Asparagus, zucchini, squash, red peppers, really stood out. UNFORTUNATELY, they were lukewarm, at best. What a huge disappointment. Overall, the bill for a burger and the dinner was $28 (before tax and tip). Given this was sirloin steak, I thought both were a bit over priced. But the serving size was decent. I will say, the meatballs looked GREAT. Maybe a side of those next time? Overall, 3 stars and I have moved my opinion to "I would give it another try".
